I was issued with a parking fine in a private car park for not displaying a ticket.

21st Nov 2019

I had bought a ticket and entered the registration incorrectly. I have written two letters appealing the charge but had no response. The date for reducing the fine has now passed and the date by which I have to pay is 3rd December. Do I write to the company again and hope they respond? I do not want my credit rating to be affected or taken to court. I did buy a ticket albeit putting in the car details incorrectly. Please can you advise? Thank you

Unfortunately if they will not respond to your letters there is not much you can do. If you refuse to pay and they refuse to go away they may end up taking you to court and you would have a chance to defend it and put your case to a judge if you wanted. Based on other parking cases it seems unlikely a Judge would uphold the fine as you bought a ticket and made an error on it so you have not deliberately refused to pay. Make sure you keep the ticket and copies of your letters just in case.

There is a good page on moneysavingexpert about this although focussed on those without tickets rather than people who made mistakes but this is worth a read:

You could also look at the British Parking Association Website:
