My neighbour has cut off the overhanging tree branches in his garden from my tree and wants to return them to me for disposal.

Hi, my neighbour has cut off the overhanging tree branches in his garden from my tree , and wants to return them to me for disposal. My understanding is that whilst he has to offer them back to me, I do not have to accept them, whereas he is insisting that they must be returned. I'd be grateful if you could let me know who is right. Thanks,
