Can I put my house into the ownership of my children now and will this prevent forced sale to cover care home costs if required in future?

It very much depends on the size of the Estate.

We charge our usual fixed fee for selling any property (including an Estate sale) which is £500 plus VAT and that covers the sale.

On top of that would be our fees for the Estate itself which vary according to the amount of work needed, whether a full or short form Inheritance Tax Return is needed, how many creditors and debtors are involved and how many beneficiaries there are.

How much would a solicitor charge for handling probate on £500,000 estate which includes a house in the Midlands?

if you are named as the executor of the will then you do not need to use the solicitor holding the will to do this. I would suggest shopping around a little if you are uncertain on how to execute this yourself or gain the grant of probate. Take a look at our link which should help
