My deceased father's cousin has passed away with no will and no relatives with the exception of me.

25th Sep 2019

I live in Canada and her remains and her estate are in Hove, East Sussex. How do I find out if I am entitled to any of her estate? If we were to travel to England to arrange for her funeral etc., and I am not entitled to her any inheritance, would the estate reimburse us for expenses incurred?

If you are the only relative, this would have to be proved, you will be entitled to all of the estate of the deceased. You would in any case need to apply for probate/letters of administration in the UK to become the executor and as such you would be entitled to any genuine out of pocket expenses from the estate assuming the estate has enough assets to cover them.
